The Ofterdingen Bubble

I traveled up to Blaubeuren, Germany recently with a group of teens (34 to be exact) so they could attend a church-sponsored youth conference known as FSY (For the Strength of Youth). We boarded a chartered bus at 0500 in the morning in the Vicenza church parking lot, and then 9 hours later we dropped them off at the designated venue in Germany. It wasn't supposed to take 9 hours, but due to a heaping amount of construction along the way and a car accident that caused a lengthy traffic jam, that's what it ended up being.  I had an apartment all to myself for the week, directly above Nell and Mike's apartment (they also traveled with me as the main chaperones). We stayed in the quaint and small town of Blaubeuren, while the youth conference was on the outskirts of town - about 10 minutes away. Our chaperoning duties were now on hold until Saturday, so we were free to do whatever we wanted in the meantime.  The night before our departure, a large group of youth traveled by tr...
